You will learn the specific vocabulary needed to answer book lending enquiries and explain typical library procedures, including online sources.
Common phrases and idioms are practised over the two days in role-play and learning games. A small homework assignment between the two sessions provides additional practice.

All you need is an internet-enabled computer/laptop or tablet, a headset (mic and headphones) and video camera, and a stable internet connection. You will then be sent a link from us that will give you direct access to the online seminar, which will run via Cisco Webex Meetings! In order to be able to use all the functions of the tool optimally, we recommend that all participants install the free app in advance.
This lively, interactive workshop provides the ideal atmosphere to build your confidence and flluency when helping your English-speaking library users.
Staff from public and academic libraries
There are no formal requirements to join this workshop - Although some ability to understand simple English is needed to follow the exercises, it is conducted in easy-to-follow ‘International English’. Whilst every effort is made to support all levels of English ability, this course is not suitable for absolute beginners.
To build confidence, to refresh the memory of English learnt long ago, to practice necessary conversational skills to help users, to learn useful librarians vocabulary, and to gain experience with dealing with typical everyday questions.
