As an international network university, Freie Universität Berlin frequently welcomes international guests and groups of scientists from overseas. During these visits, FU employees are often asked to present to these visitors to provide an overview of the Freie Universität, their departments, their courses or projects they are currently working on.
This course is aimed to help prepare for these presentations. We will look briefly at:
- key English words for talking about the Freie Universität, how it is structured and its job roles
- intercultural communication
- presenting skills related to presenting to an international audience (NB speaking speed and pauses)
- how to deal with questions when you don’t understand the English.
Then all participants will prepare a presentation on a topic of their choice (e.g. the university, their department, a module they run etc) using the FU’s framework and presentation template.
In the final session, all participants will present to the rest of the group and will receive feedback from both the instructor and from other participants.
